Kenny Walters of Kenny’s Lakes Area Auto Experts in Walled Lake, Mich., loves dogs and his community. He combined those two passions into his involvement with a local agency, Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR).
As a result, the shop became a year-round drop-off location for food, toys and supplies for DDR. In addition, he sponsors several adoption events at the shop each year, and the facility is proud to welcome dogs as well as their owners through their doors.
Not only do his customers appreciate Lake Area Auto Expert’s involvement in the group, but Kenny says they have daily walk-ins who come in to donate to the rescue and end up becoming customers, being bonded by a mutual love for canines.
Like so many other Shop4D family members, Kenny’s love for his community extends beyond just repairing people’s vehicles.
“It’s about being a big part of the community,” he says. “You need to be known for more than just your work.”
What’s his advice to other shop owners to be more community-minded?
“Help where you have the passion. For me, it’s animals. We have a huge stray population in Detroit. I want to help as many dogs as possible because they are voiceless and need our help. Their unconditional love makes it worth the effort.”
